I always wanted to share my ideas, thoughts and experiences with people. I try to help new photographers and never hide any special tips and tricks about my photography. Because this is how I learned, from others...
I pulled the trigger and started this blog series. Since it's the first post, I wanted to share my photography journey. So you can know me better. I am surely not the greatest but I do believe you might have learn a thing or two. This is exactly what I want to do. Share. My photographer friends thought me what I know. Now it's time to give it back.
I am an Embedded Engineer. My main career is always related with engineering. I had a great opportunity to work in China for FPV drone company. Just before moving to China, I bought a Fujifilm X-T3 and XF16-80f4.0 lens. I thought it's a great idea since I am going to travel one of the most interesting country of the world! But workload was intense after the covid. I was stressed out and never had a chance to use my camera because of the lockdowns and restrictions. Also I had no idea what to do!
My mobile phone was taking better pictures than my camera! So, I write one of the expat groups that I'm looking for a buddy to learn from. A nice couple invited me a dinner and I met awesome friend of mine Charles Denson and his lovely wife Alli Denson. You can check his work here: www.charlesdenson.com. He showed me the basics, how to shoot in streets etc.
After that, I've met with SIFC (Shenzhen International Foto Collective) group. In there I met with awesome people. Paul, Mina, Jeremy, Mary, Frankie, Jay, Ashley and many more... Street photography was really fun and informative with the group photowalks. But meanwhile I practiced editing skills on Lightroom and Photoshop that later created my unique moody color pallette.
I learned a lot in China. I did paid work, free work. Learned what I can. Started Off Camera Flash photography with Paul, later refined with Mina. I learned from everyone. I can't thank them enough for that.
Now I moved back to my home country. Left my photo-pals there. But I can tell that I don't have that kind of friendship in here. I am hoping to meet with awesome creators in here too! Meanwhile, I will do my best and share my knowledge online. Currently working as a consultant in a tech company and I have my own photography company as side hussle.
Excited to see what will happen! Stay tuned...
My name is Bolkar Altuntas. Nice to meet you!
